Resistance Training Without Weights
A lot of people are under the impression that you need heavy weights when you work on resistance training. That isn’t always true. Using resistance bands or tubing resistance you don’t need weights. So what exactly are these bands and tubing and why should they replace my favorite dumbbells? Resistance bands isolate the targeted muscle area. Step on one end of the band and hold the other end with your hand. Try some bicep curls. Now stretch the band over and slightly behind your head and work on our triceps. And unlike your favorite dumbbells, bands help your muscles perform through a full range of motion.
Bands are inexpensive and come in different resistance levels to meet your specific requirements. These bands travel well. Simply pack them into your suitcase when you are away from home on business or vacation, and you can have a resistance training workout. Double up the bands for more resistance. You wouldn’t think toting around free weights like dumbbells would you?
Tubing is another alternative to free weights. Like bands, resistance tubes are inexpensive, take up little room and are extremely light in weight. They too travel well so there is no excuse for missing a workout. Some feature padded grip handles for added comfort. Both bands and tubes will help your resistance training without heavy weights. When you train using resistance you are really talking about strength training.
